It’s the largest ever study on coffee and longevity, and it’s found that an extra cup of ‘Joe is not a bad idea if you want to hang around for a while longer.

It can’t prove that coffee makes you live longer, but this study of 400,000 people finds hose that drink it are less likely to die – 5-or-6% less likely in any given year for one cup drinkers, up to 16% for women who have four or five cups a day.  That survey, conducted by the National Institutes of Health and the AARP.

The researchers adjusted for other factors that could throw off the results, like smoking, drinking and exercise habits.  Doctors do say, though, watch the sugar and cream.

President Obama and House Speaker John Boehner got together Wednesday for a little lunch and to talk the economy, but the conversation quickly turned to the possibility of a repeat stand-off over debt.

The “Hoagie Summit” was to discuss economic legislation, but it soon turned to the debt ceiling.  The President, rejecting the House Speaker’s demand for more spending cuts before any future rise in the nation’s borrowing limit.  Press Secretary Jay Carney says cuts without tax increases are also out.

(Carney) “He would not accept an approach that asks middle class families and senior citizens to make sacrifices without asking for anything more from millionaires and billionaires.”

California House Republican Kevin McCarthy says the President initially refused to compromise last time, too.

(Rep. McCarthy) “If we waited for the President, you still wouldn’t even have a debt ceiling.”

McCarthy says the President must engage with Republicans on controlling spending.

Giving students easy access to a sugar high at the wrong time is going to cost a Utah high school in a big way.

FOX News Radio’s Chris Hoenig has details:

Davis High School faces a $15,000 dollar fine.  The crime: selling soda during lunch.

The school gets the $15,000 grand from the Federal government, but with a catch; Federal law bans the sale of pop during lunch hours.  Principal Dee Burton says the mandate is just too confusing.

(Burton) “We can sell a Snickers bar, but we can’t sell licorice.  We can’t sell Swedish fish, but we can sell ice cream.”

The school makes roughly $15,000 a year off the vending machines, money used to pay for arts programs and other activities.  Students say it should be their choice.

(Student) “It’s kind of ridiculous.  I mean, it’s soda pop.  It’s not gonna kill us.”

But for now, the school is pulling the plugs on the soda machines.

It’s a poisoning largely blamed on old paint, and the government is opening the doors for more cases of lead poisoning to be acknowledged, changing its standards for the first time in decades.

U.S. health officials, making a change that means many more children could be diagnosed with high levels of lead in their blood.  For the first time in 20 years, the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, announcing it’s lowering the threshold for lead poisoning in young children, but also saying they don’t have more money to help doctors or local health departments test kids or track down the source of any lead contamination, which most young children get from paint chips or dust in older homes with lead paint.  

Too much lead is harmful to developing brains, and can mean a lower I.Q.

No John Edwards and no girlfriend on the stand at the former Senator’s campaign corruption trial. The defense rests its case Wednesday without calling them.

The defense rested its case without calling John Edwards, Rielle Hunter, his mistress or Cate Edwards, the former Senator’s adult daughter. All three were on the witness list going into today’s court sessions.

The judge has now scheduled closing arguments to begin tomorrow morning.

The jury will then deliberate if Edwards’ use of money from donors to hide his affair during his campaign was illegal. Something that could land him in prison for 30 years.

There is reportedly new evidence in the Trayvon Martin case, and it could be a boost for George Zimmerman’s claim of self defense.

Newly released court records show Zimmerman suffered two black eyes, a nose fracture and cuts to the back of his head following his run-in with Trayvon Martin.

Before the shooting on February 26th, Zimmerman called 911 to report Martin was acting suspiciously.

(Zimmerman) “This guy looks like he’s up to no good.”

Martin was unarmed but Zimmerman has argued that the shooting was justified according to Florida’s ‘Stand Your Ground’ law. The prosecution has charged him with second-degree murder.

He is free on $150,000 bail and staying in a undisclosed location, facing a potential life sentence.

A small Catholic university in Ohio is no longer offering health insurance coverage to students. It says the reason is the President’s healthcare reform act.

Franciscian University of Steubenville, Ohio is ending student health insurance rather than be compelled to offer contraception.

(Hernon) “It goes against our deeply held moral and religious beliefs.”

Franciscian Vice President Michael Hernon also says the cost of insurance is on track to double next year, and triple after that.

(Hernon) “The Affordable Healthcare Act is simply unaffordable for our students.”

While Franciscan is dropping student coverage, it will still cover its employees and still operate a health clinic on campus.

A new national plan to treat and help families cope with Alzheimer’s disease.

Announcing the first national Alzheimer’s plan, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius says “a lot more needs to be done and it needs to be done right now.”

The White House setting up a clock, ticking towards better treatment for the illness by 2025. While also offering help for those suffering today.

A website will provide families with information about dementia and where they can get help in their own communities. This summer, doctors and other health providers can start getting some free training on how to spot the early signs of Alzheimer’s and the best ways to care for those patients .
