Navy Vet Commits Suicide After Allegedly Being Denied Care

    The suicide of a former Navy man is raising new concerns about state of healthcare being offered through the department of a Veterans Affairs.

    The family of Navy veteran Peter Kaisen says they hope his death won’t be in vain. The 76-year-old took his own life in the parking lot of a New York VA hospital after he was allegedly was denied care at the Northport Veterans Medical Center where he had been a patient.

    Family members say Kaisen had suffered from depression. The suicide is another stain on the agency. The VA has been under fire for more than two years, following a national review that revealed widespread corruption, delays in treatment and cover-ups by high-level officials.
