Scientists Leave Mars Simulation Dome

Six scientists are finally out of a geodesic dome in Hawaii after living in it for a year, pretending to be astronauts on Mars.

    FOX’s Joe Chiaro reports:

The scientists emerged from the dome on Hawaii’s Mauna Loa volcano Sunday…

NASA funded the experiment through the University of Hawaii to learn about challenges that might face future astronauts on missions to Mars. Tristan Bassingthwaighte served as the crews architect:

(Bassingthwaighte) “The UH research going on up here is just super vital when it comes to picking crews, figuring out how people are going to actually work on different kinds of missions, and sort of the human factors element of space travel, colonization.”

Two more missions are planned and organizers are already looking for volunteers.
