America isn’t prepared enough for a catastrophic or nuclear disaster.

FOX News Radio’s Jared Halpern has more on a new Congressional audit.

Federal agencies are not ready to ensure emergency shelter or medical treatment in the event of a major catastrophe, and FEMA isn’t properly tracking safety efforts.

In the event of a nuclear-style attack, a report from the Government Accountability Office — seen by the Associated Press, finds it could take up to five years to develop ways to tell if people were exposed to unsafe levels of radiation. It could take even longer to get a full medical response.

A Department of Homeland Security spokesman says the agency will put new recommendations in place by next year.
